11 players at La Masia

Sergi Nogueras / Roger Bogunyà

Only eleven players were involved in today’s training session, as most of the squad is away on international duty. Of the eleven, only nine were first team players, for Rijkaard also called upon Olmo and Marc Crosas.

The nine first team players available, Valdés, Jorquera, Belletti, Sylvinho, Oleguer, Márquez, Motta, Ezquerro and Giovani, were joined by Barça B’s Olmo and Marc Crosas for today’s session at La Masia.

Olmo and Marc Crosas return

QM3D2963.jpgHaving already participated in much of the first team’s pre-season activities, it is no longer unusual to see either Olmo or Marc Crosas working with their supposed superiors. In fact they have only been missing for a few recent sessions as part of the build up to Barça B’s friendly last Saturday against Sabadell (1-2).

Circuits and a match

Work commenced at 18.30 with the players doing circuit training in an exercise that ended with shots on goal.

Then Frank Rijkaard created two teams for a seven-a-side match. The yellow team featured Jorquera, Oleguer, Sylvinho, Motta, Ezquerro and fitness coaches Roca and Pozanco, who played the bib-less Valdés, Belletti, Olmo, Márquez, Crosas, Giovani and goalkeeping coach Unzué.

Thuram, in Barcelona
Lilian Thuram came back to Barcelona on Monday and underwent treatment in the dressing room. He has been sent to the Medical Services for care after the French Federation confirmed that the player is not 100% fit. On Tuesday he will be expected to train in isolation and should be able to train normally on Wednesday, thus starting where he left off to join the French national team.
