Txiki rules out loan move for Bojan

Txiki Begiristain arrived in Saint Andrews on Wednesday and, on Thursday, watched the players train at the orders of manager Frank Rijkaard. Barça’s director of football then spoke to us on a number of matters including young striker Bojan.

Barça’s director of football Txiki Begiristain was on hand on Thursday to watch the players go through their paces. In an interview with Barça TV and www.fcbarcelona.cat he told us: “People are keen to start watching matches and not just training. They want to see how the new men are adapting and the reactions of the men who were already here”. He underlined that he had noticed “an enthusiastic atmosphere” in training.

Bojan to the first team

scotland01_x9x.jpgThe presence of young striker Bojan Krkic in Saint Andrews is proving to be quite a talking point. Txiki told us: “A loan move is ruled out for the moment because he’s part of our plans. He’s training with the first team in order to stay”. However, he stressed that the situation would depend on the amount that Rijkaard uses him in matches. As for the inclusion of Bojan in the Spain squad for the under-17 World Cup, which would keep him out of Barça’s pre-season preparations, he revealed that the Club are in talks with the Spanish FA: “We’ve explained what the player wants and what’s best for him. He’s doing the pre-season with the first team because he’s part of our plans. It is important for him to stay in the first team”.

Players on the move?

Txiki also spoke about players who may be leaving the Club: “We’re working on it. The players who are not part of our plans realise that if there’s a good way out they’ll take it, but it also has to be good for the Club. We’re working on finding solutions”. He specifically mentioned Giuly: “He knew what was waiting for him but a footballer has to play. And, perhaps, that’s more likely elsewhere. There’s still time to find a good way out for the players that don’t come into our plans though we’re not in favour of waiting until 31st August”.

The internal code of behaviour

A lot has been said about the code of behaviour that the players will have to follow this season. Txiki assured us: “All teams have a code and it’s always existed in Barça. The difference now is that there’ll be a disciplinary committee for serious breaches. However, I hope it will be the squad that regulates itself”.

As for the proposal of setting up a working commission within the dressing room, Txiki told us: “It’s only an idea. We’d like there to be communication, not just with the team captains. It’s not fair that Puyol has the responsibility of speaking with the Club. We need to specify who does the work and share the responsibilities, and not just among the captains. It’s about being able to explain things”.

Pre-match training
The players trained on Thursday morning for the last time before the match against Dundee United. The session lasted for two hours – the longest so far – but was relatively light. The players started off in groups with the ball before moving on to positional work. They then finished off practising crossing the ball and shooting.
