Deco pulls muscle

Deco had to pull out of this Sunday’s game against Villarreal at the last minute due to a twinge in his right calf and has a muscle contraction which will be treated over the next few days.

According to the club’s medical services and after tests carried out this Monday morning, Barça’s Portuguese international “has a muscle contraction which will be treated over the next few days so that he is able to play in the next League match”. The report went on to rule out “any muscle tear in the player’s right calf”.

Happened in warm-up

Deco had initially been included by coach Frank Rijkaard in the starting XI to face Villarreal, but had to pull out at the last minute. The Barça midfielder felt a twinge in his right calf while warming up on the Camp Nou pitch and his place was taken by Xavi, who scored the Catalans only goal against Pellegrini’s men.
