Oleguer: "We have to believe in ourselves"

Jesús Carrillo

Oleguer Presas believes that FC Barcelona can easily make up the six points that separate them from league leaders Real Madrid if the team play at their best in every game.

The Catalan defender spoke to the press on Wednesday and was asked if Barça's new mantra that they can Madrid was going to help. "Any motto is good, but behind it there is still a lot to be done and everyone knows what we have to do," he said. "So, now we have to do it. I think that if we are all at our bets and moving in the same direction things will improve."

The present and the future

Having missed the last few games of the season through injury, Oleguer is now looking forward to playing once more. "I have a real desire to start playing again, but it is difficult as so many of the players are doing so well," he continued, before talking about his current status. "Patience is fundamental. I do not believe that it is in the interests of the club to have a player that does not play. We will speak more easily when the season is over."

Defensive strength

Oleguer then reflected on the team's outstanding defensive record this season. "Perhaps one of the keys regarding the defence this season is that the whole team is working back," he explained. "It is something that everyone has to be involved in. In football when you concede and when you score goals, the blame and merit is for every player."

Bojan and Luis Fabiano

Oleguer then looked ahead to the international in midweek which could see Bojan Krkic become the youngest player ever to appear for Spain. "He deserves it and I wish him lots of luck," he said. Finally, he was asked about the match at the weekend against Sevilla and how the team can stop the free-scoring Luis Fabiano. "If we go out truly believing and play well, the opposition and their ability is a secondary consideration."

Yet to play
After picking up a knock at the end of last year, Oleguer has yet to appear for Barça in 2008 and that led to speculation about him moving on. "My future is with Barça," he said. "I am happy here, but it does not only depend on my."
