Eric Abidal passed his medical on Friday morning without problems. Club doctors highlighted his strength and stressed that he has not suffered any important muscular injuries throughout his career.

The medical, which was carried out at the Hospital de Barcelona and at the Camp Nou, was supervised by first team doctor Ricard Pruna. He told us: “We did an exhaustive medical and he was fine”.

Not prone to injury

Dr Pruna highlighted three aspects of Abidal’s medical: “He has never had any muscle injuries, he’s very strong and he’s capable of playing on with physical discomfort”.

No after-effects

The former Olympique Lyon player has only had one serious injury during his footballing career. A year ago he fractured the fifth metatarsal of his left foot, the same injury that Messi suffered last season. However, after a thorough examination, Dr Pruna told us that there were no after-effects whatsoever and that the player had made a complete recovery.
