Abidal pens four-year deal

Éric Abidal has signed a four-year contract with FC Barcelona, that will run until June 30, 2011 and includes a buy-out clause of €90m.


The deal was penned at 12:30 on Friday afternoon and sealed his move to the Camp Nou. The transfer went through after Barça finalised negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais, who will receive €15m for the 27-year-old.

All in the detail

Barça president, Joan Laporta, explained that Lyon will receive an extra €500,000 if the Blaugrana win the UEFA Champions League during the next four seasons.

Laporta also outlined additional payments that have to be made with Barça paying one set of legal costs of €805,000, while Lyon will also pick up a bill for the transaction of aournd €700,000.

Numbers game

Abidal has already been given the number 22 shirt, that was vacated by Javier Saviola at the end of the season. The full-back wore number 20 at Lyon, but Deco already has the shirt at Barça.

Agent business
Former Italian player Marco Simone is Éric Abidal's agent and he accompanied the player on Friday when the contract was signed. Simone played alongside Frank Rijkaard at AC Milan and scored 49 goals during his time at the San Siro.
