Gio leaves Barça for Feyenoord

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is to leave Barça and return to the club where he started his professional career, Feyenoord, where he is to be officially announced as a signing this very Wednesday.

The 32 year old left back will wear the FC Barcelona shirt no more. He has come to an agreement with the club to leave after four successful years here, winning the Champions League, two Ligas and two Spanish Super Cups.

Extended contract with conditions

On December 8, the Dutchman renewed his contract until 2008, but there is a verbal agreement between club and player that he is free to leave whenever he likes as long as that is to rejoin his original club Feyenoord, which is precisely what has happened.

After starting his long and successful career at the Dutch club, Gio then played for Rangers in Scotland for three seasons, Arsenal for two and finally came to FC Barcelona at the start of the 2003/2004 season.
