Saviola’s Barça years in numbers

Javier Saviola will be leaving FC Barcelona on June 30 after six years on the club’s books. The former River Plate star has played for four seasons at the club, while for the two others he was out on loan to Monaco and Sevilla.


The Argentinian moved to the Camp Nou in 2001 after winning the World Youth Cup with Argentina. In his four seasons wearing the Barça shirt, he has contributed 72 goals in 172 matches.

49 league goals

fcb-nxstic-saviola_x4x.jpgOf his 49 league goals, 17 came in his first season under then coach Carles Rexach. In 2002-03, he scored 13 under Frank Rijkaard and added 14 more in the 2003-04 season. During the season just ended, Saviola was on target 5 times.

Goals in Europe and the Cup

Saviola scored 11 Champions League for FC Barcelona in 27 games. He also scored 3 times in his 7 UEFA Cup games, while in the Copa del Rey he scored 9 goals in 15 appearances.

Out on loan

saviola02.jpgIn the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons Saviola was loaned out to Monaco and then Sevilla. In the Principality he scored 11 times, 7 times in the French league and 4 times in the Champions league. In Andalusia, the Argentinian was on target 18 times, with half those goals coming in the league and the other half in UEFA Cup matches.

Javier Saviola only won one major title in all his time at FC Barcelona, the Spanish Super Cup won this season at the expense of Espanyol. He also collected a UEFA Cup winners medal in his time at Sevilla.
