Fathers and sons

Sergi Nogueras

When Sergio Busquets followed in his father's footsteps and appeared for the FC Barcelona first team in midweek, he was not the first to do so. The Blaugrana's history has several cases where sons have followed their dad's path.

WEMBLEY-EUFxRIA.jpgBosch, Pereda, Reina, Cruyff and Álvarez Costa have all had two generations playing for the club and now the Busquets have joined that distinguished list of families to have father and son both make appearances for the Barça first team. Sergio Busquets made his debut for Frank Rijkaard's side in the 72nd minute of the Copa Catalunya final on Tuesday evening when he replaced Lluis Sastre. Carles Busquets was a member of the Blaugrana first team squad between 1988-89 and 1997-98.

Below are the other fathers and sons that have represented the club.

Bosch

The father played from 1922 until 1929 and was a member of the side that lifted the club's first ever league championship trophy, in the 1928-29 campaign. His son then beat his record as he made 221 appearances for th club between 1951-52 and 1959-60 and was a regular in the side of the Cinco Copas. He also won four Atas during his time at Barça.

Pereda

Chus Pereda was a midfielder with FC Barcelona from 1961 until 1969 and helped the club to win the Intercity Fairs Cup in 165-66. During his career he played 293 games and scored an impressive 104 goals in a glittering spell at Camp Nou. Following in his footsteps was his son Jesús, who rose through the youth ranks and played in a friendly encounter in 1991.

Reina

Of all the fathers and sons, only the Reina's played in goal for the club. Miguel Reina was a member of the team from 1966-67 until 1972-73 and played 288 games for Barça. His son, Pepe, now plays for Liverpool in the English Premiership after being a member of the first team squad at Barça in the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons.

Álvarez Costas

EUFORIA_LLIGA_73-74-_COSTAS.jpgQuique Álvarez Costas is the current coach of the Barça B team and played for the first team between 1971 and 1980. He has the distinction of having two sons represent the club at the highest level as Quique and Oscar Álvarez have both appeared. The former enjoyed more noteriety as he played 23 official and friendly games for the first tema between 1993 and 1996, while the latter, Oscar, played in a friednly in the 1998-99 campaign.

Cruyff

Johan Cruyff needs little introduction as he was a star for Barça between 1973-74 and 1977-78 and then became a successful coach when guiding the club to four league titles and the European Cup between 1989-90 and 1995-96. During his time in charge, his son Jordi rose through the youth system and was a member of the first team in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons.
