The FC Barcelona midfielder has been named in the preliminary Brazil squad for the Copa America, which takes place in Venezuela from the end of next month.

José Edmílson is one of 34 players to have been named by manager Carlos Dunga for the South American nations cup being played between June 26 and July 15. As expected, Ronaldinho has not been named in the team after asking to be left out so that he can enjoy a well-earned break.

Friendlies against England and Turkey

After meeting the Turks in Dortmund, Dunga plans to announce his definitive twenty-two for Venezuela. The players named in the squad will be expected to join the party on June 12 in Teresópolis, a city near to Río de Janeiro, ready to fly up to Venezuela a week later.

Other Barça players involved
Edmílson may well not be the only Barça player at the Copa América. Both Leo Messi and Javier Saviola could potentially be playing for Argentina, while Rafa Márquez is the captain of the Mexican national side.
