Gudjohnsen: "We cannot look back"

Eidur Gudjohnsen believes that FC Barcelona squad should focus on their chances of winning the league title and not worry about the reasons why they have been inconsistent recently. "We should not look back," he said.

The Icelandic international does not think that focussing on the past will help the Blaugrana achieve their ambition of clinching a third consecutive championship and wants the players to only think about the last four games of the campaign.

During the press conference on Wednesday, the former Chelsea player fielded many questions about his future at Camp Nou after reports surfaced that he is being chased by a number of clubs in England. "My future does not concern me right now," he explained. "I am only thinking about trying to win the 12 points that are left so that we can be champions. That is my only concern."

Logical criticism

Gudjohnsen then reflected on the Barça's last outing when a late equaliser cost the team two points: "Against Betis we did not have any luck," he stated. "To concede a goal like that in last few minutes is not normal."

While recognising that the fans have every right to be concerned, the Barça number seven continued: "the circumstances that the team find themselves in mean that the supporters have lost a bit of confidence, but that is normal when you lose. But these same people can help us a lot in the next few games and be like a 12th player."

Thinking positively

"Now is not the time to worry about what will happen if we do not win the league," he said, when asked if there could be wholesale changes at the club should they miss out on the championship. "We can still win it and therefore, as I have said before, we have to think postively and be optimistic about our chances."

"We have talked a lot about recent results in the dressing room and we all agree that now is not the time to start looking back as we do not want to waste time worrying about what has already happened. We have to look to the next game and focus on that."
