The Cup final will be played at the Bernabéu

Representatives of the four clubs involved agreed this Friday that the final of the cup will take place at the Santiago Bernabeú.


The date will be the 23rd of June and today the venue was officially confirmed. The final will take place at the Santiago Bernabeú in Madrid. Barça will need to hold on to their 5-2 advantage from the first leg of the semi-final if they are to make the trip to Madrid.

Meeting in Las Rozas

The representatives of the four semi-finalists met at the headquarters of the Spanish Federation in Las Rozas. Representing FC Barcelona were Josep Maria Fonclara and Lluís Goyanes. One of the principal topics discussed was the allocation of tickets. In the end the number agreed was 30,000 for each finalist. The prices will be set at a meeting on the 11th of May after the two finalists are known.

According to the Spanish Federation, the Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón, sent a letter to Ángel María Villar in which he offered the Bernabéu as host venue for the final.

A step away

FC Barcelona are well placed to participate in the final on the 23rd of June at the Santiago Bernabéu. The last hurdle before the final is the return leg against Getafe on the 10th of May. Barça lead 5-2 after the first leg.

Fond memories
If Barcelona manage to reach the final, the venue will bring back plenty of good memories. The last occasion Barça played a final at the Santiago Bernabéu was in 1997 – a game the won 3-2 against Betis. A year later the club retained the cup in Valencia.
