Zambrotta confident of doing the double

Zambrotta feels Barça’s objective has to be to win both of the tournaments the team is still involved in. “We can win the League and Cup double” claims the Italian, especially considering the way Barça have led the way for almost the entire season.

Barcelona have been top of the Spanish league table after 19 of the 28 rounds played to date, and Zambrotta feels this is something that needs to be taken very seriously indeed. “I think we have led the league since the first day, sometimes jointly with Sevilla, and I think we can win the League, and the Copa del Rey as well”. And claiming a historic double is the target that the players have their sights on as the run-in to the end of the season gets under way.

Zambrotta is a terrific man to have in your team, because he can play just as well on the left or the right of defence. “I don’t mind if I play on the left or on the right” he said. “It all depends on the coach and the match”. And he feels that the way Rijkaard varies what he does with the 2006 World Cup winner is only normal, as it simply means he “has more options”.

More aggression

He has also noted that the team needs to “show a different mentality” in the final minutes of games like that against Deportivo, in which the team was “a bit frightened” by Adrian’s goal, which pulled the visitors back to 2-1. “It is something that has happened to us before this season, and this can be improved by being more aggressive”.

La Romareda, “a difficult ground”

On Saturday, it’s off to Zaragoza and La Romareda, which Zambrotta considers the most difficult of all the matches the side still has to face this season. He described La Romareda as “a difficult ground against a difficult team and that plays well”.

On Ronaldinho
Zambrotta has kept well out of the gossip surrounding Ronaldinho in recent days, and when pressed to comment on the situation, he merely said that the Brazilian “is fine here and I can’t see him at any other club”.
