Thuram, optimistic about rest of season

Speaking to Barça TV's 'Zona Mixta' programme, centre back Lilian Thuram has said he is optimistic about the rest of the season, and also spoke about his first taste of a 'clásico' at the Camp Nou.

The FC Barcelona player is not overly concerned about the fixture list ahead, as he knows the immediate Recreativo Huelva encounter gives the team enough to think about for the moment: "I think it will be as hard as any other game, but at Huelva it is important for us to win. The fixtures aren't important. We have to take things game by game knowing there is not long to go now. There are 12 games left and they are all important."

Optimistic

Thuram is optimistic about the remaining games in both the League and Copa del Rey. "I think we have a very strong team" he said. "It is not easy to win, it never is, we know that. But I am sure the team will get back to full form very soon". He is aware, however, that it is some time now since Barcelona collected an away win in the league. "It is not a problem that we have not been playing our best away from the Camp Nou. We can't play well every game in a season. But it is now important to win both home and away."

The 'clásico' at the Camp Nou

The Frenchman also reflected on his experiences of the Camp Nou: "Before the game everybody was talking about how important it was, but it was nice to take part. The fans behaved differently throughout the whole game. The game means so much to the history of Catalonia. I always think it is important for there to be strong roots, as is my case, as I am from Guadalupe."

The other Thuram
Lilian Thuram also told listeners about his charity work, which has been the subject of a report by Barça TV in the documentary called 'Thuram, el defensor'. "Everybody should work to make life better" he said. "The best thing for children is for them to be educated in such a way that they can see all other people as normal people", explained Thuram, who has always taken a strong stand against racism throughout his career.
