Zambrotta representing Barcelona

Gianluca Zambrotta will be the only representative of FC Barcelona to play in the glamorous friendly encounter against Manchester United in midweek.


The game on Tuesday has been organised by UEFA and sees United take on a European All Star XI. Italian coach Marcelo Lippi will be in charge of the Euro team which will see Zambrotta among their ranks. Ronaldinho, Lilian Thuram and Carles Puyol were due to appear, but have been forced to withdraw.

Alongside Zambrotta will be former Barca strikier Henrik Larsson as well his international team-mates Fabio Grosso and Marco Materazzi (both Inter) and Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo (both AC Milan).

Directors’ presence

While Zambrotta will represent Barcelona on the pitch, vice president Ferran Soriano and director Albert Perrin will accompany technical secretary Txiki Begiristain will be in the stands.

Exciting encounter
The friendly international will pit Manchester United against a European All Stars XI in honour of the Red Devils’ 50 years in European competition and five decades since the Treaty of Rome was signed to form the European Union.
