Txiki: “We know that we can win”

FC Barcelona's technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, has a clear idea of what the Blaugrana have to do at Anfield to turn around the first leg deficit against Liverpool and believes the team can score two goals against any team.

The squad are already in England and are preparing for the encounter that will see them have to come from behind against the Reds if they are to progress to the next round. Txiki believes that he knows what has to be done if Barça are to continue their defence of the trophy: "The aim is to score two goals in the first half hour and then defend that lead," he said. He then stated that the defeat against Sevilla has not seen the team's confidence drop and will not affect how they approach the match at Anfield.

Creativity and effectiveness

While Frank Rijkaard works out what tactic to use in the second leg, Txiki continued: "We cannot lose our identity and have to create chances." The club director is also keen to see Barça push forward throughout the match knows that in doing so, they could be open to counter-attacks from the home side. "We will play with the intention of being effective and creative," he said, before adding that using the opening 30 minutes in both the match against Zaragoza and the game against Sevilla as a reference as to what is required.

No fear

Txiki has no fear of the atmosphere that will be created by the home fans at Anfield. "This will be a difficult environment for us," he explained. "But they have lsot games there before." If Liverpool do opt to sit back and defend their first leg advantage, then Txiki believes that could help FC Barcelona as they are capable of opening up defences.
