Xavi: “We have to go out and give everything”

The Blaugrana have already put the defeat against Sevilla behind them and have all thoughts focussed towards the game against Liverpool on Tuesday. Xavi believes the team has to go out and give everything.

Xavi Hernandez mentioned in the press conference following the game against Sevilla, that the team has already been in training for the champions league clash against Liverpool. The midfield maestro believes that “against Liverpool, it will be different as we will go out looking for the goal”, as “we need three goals to go through”.

One of the requirements needed in order to stage a comeback at Anfield is to go out attacking: “We have to look for goals and we have to go with this mentality. We have to give everything”. Frank Rijkaard’s team must come back from a 1-2 defeat: “it’ll be extra tough as we are the current champions and all teams want to beat us”.

Zaragoza for example

The game against Zaragoza, which saw Barça stage a come back in order to enter the semi final draw of the Copa del Rey, should be the example to follow. “The defeat against Sevilla should also serve as a reminder of how we have to go out into a game; to play harder and apply more pressure”.

Xavi also believes that against the ‘reds’, the “surprise factor, which worked well against Zaragoza, wouldn’t work against Liverpool. They already know we play like this”.

Memories of Anfield

Xavi is one of the few Barça players who played at Anfield in the season of 2001/02 which saw the blaugrana come away victorious 1-3. Xavi remembers the time well “It’s an impressive stadium – a great place to ply football”. For Xavi, “Anfield has a small pitch and therefore we’ll have many chances”. The 1-3 win in 2001/02 “we could have ended with 6”.

“Ronnie” goals record
The goal against Sevilla means Ronaldinho has equalled his goals tally for Barça. He is now only one goal behind Kanoute in the race to be the Liga’s tip scorer ‘Pichichi’. Last season Ronaldinho bagged 17 in the entire season. In his first season he scored 15 and the season after, 9.
