Next up, Athletic Club Bilbao

Barça squad trained on Thursday morning at 11.45 on the Masía pitch. It was a gentle session that did not feature any of Deco, Belletti or Eto'o.

After the disappointment of the Champions League match with Liverpool, Barça returned to work with the typical after-match routine. In other words, it was the usual series of recuperation exercises, with Deco excused due to a contusion and working out in the gym instead, Belletti also absent due to his ankle injury, and Eto’o given permission by the club not to attend today’s short warm-down session.

Zambrotta and Puyol also trained in isolation under the watchful eye of fitness coach Paco Seirul•lo, and both players left the session early.

Starters missing

Following the initial series of exercises, the players who started the match last night against Liverpool were able to leave. The rest of the players continued the workout, this time with the ball, with the main focus being on shooting practice. The session ended with the players left being spilt into two teams for a mini-match.

Individual chats
During training, several members of the squad were called aside for private chats with the different coaches. Eusebio Sacristán spoke at length with Zambrotta before the session started, and also had plenty of words to say to Márquez at the end. Rijkaard spent several minutes after the session was over discussing various matters with his first choice goalkeeper Víctor Valdés.
