“Sports also have to be included more systematically in aid programmes for children, and especially those who are living in the midst pf poverty, diseases and conflicts”. Kofi Annan
Sharing the sentiments of 7th UN General Secretary, Kofi Annan, the Fundació del Futbol Club Barcelona has set up its 'Xarxa Internacional de Centres Solidaris' (International Network of Solidarity Centres - XICS) with the main objective being to promote access to Education, Health and Sport for all children all around the world, without distinction.
The first beneficiaries of this program are the boys and girls living in critical situations in
the most disfavoured regions of the planet, victims of severe poverty, humanitarian crisis and
child exploitation. These children are continually living in situations of social exclusion,
experiencing major vulnerability which causes the threat of chronic malnutrition, transmittable
diseases like Aids, and a lack of opportunities to build a safe future. For many of these children,
life is reduced to little more than a fight for survival, where they are denied a childhood, a
period of life that should be all about personal development, learning and play, as recognised by
the “Convention on the Rights of the Child' of 1989.
With this in mind, the Fundació del FC Barcelona has made one of its main objectives
international cooperation for development, carrying out programmes and projects in the most
disfavoured regions of the planet in collaboration with recognised local organisations and with the
support of the local authorities and ministries in the affected areas. In these programmes, the
main objective will be to provide “integral care” in terms of education, health care
and psycho-social support for boys and girls that do not have adequate access to basic social and
health services in such countries as Brazil, Cameroon, Senegal, and Morocco.
