The goals of the JES
The
JES are intended to familiarise educators with sport as an educational tool that
will encourage children to stay on at school and get better academic results. In addition to
fostering social health and civic values, sport also becomes a means of social inclusion for the
children living in the action area.
The main goals of the programme are:
- To provide teachers with the resources they need to use sport as a tool for education and
social integration. Working with them multiplies the positive effects
- To cut drop-out and academic failure rates among the students being taught by these teachers
and instructors in schools and organisations and to give them an incentive to improve their
academic performance.
- To foster sport as a means of transmitting and promoting values and to work on issues such as
peaceful conflict resolution, dialogue, the act of sharing, healthy habits, etc.
- To provide, in some cases, information about the Network of International Solidarity Centres
for Education and Sport (XICS) programme and to drive it. Often the centres in this network will be
the hosts for these conferences.
