If possible teachers from state schools and educators in social institutions who work with
children in different contexts of vulnerability.
The selected educators must be professionals who work with children who are at risk of social
exclusion in the most disadvantaged districts of the town where the JES is held.
From 150 to 200 children aged between 8 and 16 are chosen; half of them must be girls. Work is done in the poorest districts where priority is given to the families that are most vulnerable. In this selection process the Foundation has the support of local associations who have extensive knowledge of the neediest families.
The children are divided into groups by age for the activities. As far as possible each group is 50% boys and 50% girls.
To select the beneficiaries – both educators and students – a Conference Organising Committee is set up made up of representatives from all the organisations backing the event, including NGOs, associations, the local council, government agencies, etc.
This Committee lays down the rules for identifying beneficiaries in a way which maximises the impact of the JES and has a multiplier effect.
