Rijkaard: "We've taken an important step forward"

The team returned to put in a great performance on Sunday evening; the kind of performance the fans have come to appreciate. The Dutch coach knows some things have changed and stressed "we've taken an important step forward".

Following a lull in form over the past few weeks, Barça have performed in a way in the way the fans have become accustomed to. "After the game against Nastic, I said the team is getting better in many aspects and today we've taken an important step forward".

Questioned about the penalties given by the referee, Rijkaard did not want to get into a debate: "we've deservedly won, we've had 61-62percent of the possession and we've created two chances on goal. It has been a well-deserved victory".

Fans behind the team

Frank Rijkaard denied his players went out on pitch affected by the criticisms they have received recently in the media. What is sure is that "we are working hard in order to find our rhythm". And the work is beginning to bear fruit: "we're happy with the victory. The team has worked hard and found its rhythm". And Rijkaard stressed that the team was able to feel, the moment they stepped out onto the pitch that "the fans are with their team because the team is playing the football they want to see".

Good in all areas

Frank Rijkaard highlighted the work of every player on pitch: "Regarding organization, we played a good game and were we very good defensively. Edmilson put in a worthy performance; looking at ease where ever he was, despite losong a few balls. Deco also played great game". Asked about the change of Gudjohnsen for Saviola, Rijkaard explained his reasons: "At 2-1 and with the size of the Celta defence, it's a good idea to have a player with a little more height. The public showed their appreciation for him, however, there are more players to help the team".
