Champions’ celebrations

Barca Sorli Discau beat Alcoy 7-1 in their final home game of the OK Liga as the team and the fans celebrated the league title they’d won on Friday and the European Cup won last week.

Although Liceo’s defeat in Reus on Friday had handed the title to Ferran Pujalte’s team had even kicked off, Barca played as if everything depended on it and thrashed their visitors thanks to goals from Borregan(2), Afroher(2),Carlitos, Pnadero and Teixido in a thrilling exhibition of attacking roller hockey.

Barca dominated from the off and created endless chances – Sergi Panadero and Reinaldo twice came close before Borregan opened the scoring, adding the second soon after. Carlitos Lopez set up Jordi Adorer for the third to round off a great first half performance.

Pressure continues after the break

Nothing changed after the break as Barça Sorli Discau continued to pile on the pressure, though Pujalte’s decision to bring players off the bench – including Octavio Tarres who came on for Aitor Egurrola and proceeded to make a great penalty stop, did disturb reg rhythm somewhat. Then Adroher added the fourth after being set up by Lopez, who then scored the fifth himself, before Panadero made it six. Alcoy got their goal late on through Carlos Perez at the end of a counter attack.

Teixidó`s moment

That seemed to have wrapped up the game before one of the most emotive moments of the evening, when in his last game in a Barca shirt Lluís Teixidó made it seven and received a standing ovation from the crowd, his fellow players and the coaches on the sideline.

Mia Ordeig was the only player to miss out as he was still carrying an injury from last week. This afternoon’s game was the last league game of the season at the Palau and the champions will wind up the season in Tenerife next weekend.
