FC Barcelona Borges beat Port Sagunt 29-32 to chalk up their 24th ASOBAL win and stay a clear six points ahead of second place Ciudad Real at the top of the table.

Barça remain unbeaten in the ASOBAL this season after seeing off Port Sagunt on Wednesday night and they now turn their attention to this weekend’s European tie against Veszprem.

Intensity from the off

FC Barcelona Borges began the game with their usual intensity and soon had the match under control with Ugalde, Entrerríos, Nagy and Romero, twice, all on target from the team’s first five chances.

However, with their fans cheering them on the home side showed that they were not just going to lie down and be steamrollered and they battled back to 6-9 after 15 minutes causing Xavi Pascual to start calling on his bench.

Defensive intensity wanes

With the fans getting ever noisier, the hosts moved to within two goals(8-10) by the 16th minute as Barça’s defensive intensity waned and they also failed to put away their chances, leaving the score at 14-16 at the break.

Barça up the pace

Sagunt made a great start to the second half and were soon drawing at 14 all only for FC Barcelona race to a 14-18 lead, which they were capable of holding for the rest of the half and indeed stretching it to a maximum seven goals(19-26), finally running out comfortable winners, confirming their top spot and now able to focus on the weekend’s Champions League game against Veszprem.
