Kiel win again (27-30)

Verònica Díez

Barca were beaten 27-30 by Kiel in their second Champions League game at the Palau, despite a strong showing that pushed the Germans all the way, with only some great keeping from Omeyer at the end of the game keeping Kiel ahead.

Even start

2009-10-11_BALONMANO_18.JPGBarça Borges came out strong, with Magnus Jernemyr leading the 6-0 defence and restricting Kiel to long range shots. Three quick counters led by Victor Tomas gave Barca an early 5-3 lead, but four goals with no reply from the visitors ended with them taking a 9-12 lead on 17 minutes and although Iker Romero pulled it back to 15-15, the Germans went in 17-20 at the break.

More aggression

2009-10-11_BALONMANO_20.JPGBarca came out with more aggression after the break and taking advantage of Zeitz's exclusion, they drew level on 22-22, before Victor Tomas raised a roar from the home crowd by making it 24-23 as Barca took the lead. Unfortunately in the final 19 minutes the German keeper Omeyer made some great stops and Kiel were able to overhaul their hosts. With Anic stretching their lead to a maximum four goals(24-28). Barca put in a brave effort and kept fighting till the end, but once again it was Kiel who went home with the points.
