The thirteenth Super Cup

Barça Borges has won the thirteenth Super Cup in its history. The Barça team increase their list of trophies and is dominating this tournament in an outstandingly.


With their victory over Ciudad Real (25-26), the handball first team picks up its thirteenth Super Cup. Of the 23 editions of this trophy, more than half are Barça’s.

FC Barcelona’s first title came in the 1986/87 season. From the 1988/99 campaign to 1992/93’s Barça won four consecutive Super Cups.

The handball section started the process of becoming the best team in the world at the end of the 90’s and the early 2000’s. Meanwhile in the seasons 1993/94, 1996/97, 1997/98, 1999-2000, 2000/01 and 2003/04 Barça carried on winning Super Cups.

Now under the name of the Asobal Super Cup, in the season of 2006/07 the Barça team won it again. The game between Barça and Valladolid ended 36-33 with Iker Romero chosen as best player as well as highest scorer (12 goals). David Barrufet was awarded best goalkeeper.

Albacete was the scene to turn the victory round on Talan Dusjhebaev’s team and the club’s thirteenth Super Cup.

The other Super Cups
Way behind Barça are five teams who have won the Super Cup at some point. Last year it was Ciudad Real, in the final against FC Barcelona, to be precise. The Manchego team has two trophies, as also do BM Cantabria and the defunct Atletico de Madrid. Three Super Cups were won by Portland, the last of which being in the 2005/06 season. Bidasoa has also won a Super Cup.
