Second reinforcement for Manolo Cadenas

Verónica Díez

Magnus Jernemyr has agreed terms with FC Barcelona to join the club’s handball team for the next two seasons. The Swedish middle back is leaving GOG Svendborg Gudme, the club with which he played against Barça last season.

Aged 32, and after 14 as a professional handball player, Magnus Jernemyr is to be a Barça player for the next two seasons. At 2 metres tall and weighing in at 113 kilos, the Swede is a rock in the defence. It is also not his first time in the Asobal League as he turned out for Torrevieja between 2005 and 2007.

Career

Magnus Jernemyr first played handball with Borlange HK before signing for top flight side Redbergslids IK Goteborg in 1994, where he became an exceptional middle back. In the 2005-06 season he joined Torrevieja in the Asobal League. He played for the Alicante outfit for two years and then signed for his previous team, GOG Svendborg Gudme, before coming to FC Barcelona. He played in the Champions League with the Danish side and was outstanding in defence.

He made his international debut for Sweden in June 2005.
