B team confident of success against Madrid

Jaume Marcet / Aida Soriano

With the tension building ahead of Monday’s big match, we spoke to Barça B coach Luis Enrique and some of his players about how they see the game going and they all expressed their confidence in Guardiola’s team.

Although they remain B team players, keeper Rubén Miño, defender Oriol Romeu, and strikers Nolito and Jonathan Soriano know what it is to play with the first team and they are all confident that Monday’s game will be a success for their “occasional” team mates.

"Barça have what is needed"

2010-09-18_PARTIDO_39.JPGRuben Miño stepped in for Pinto for this week’s trip to Greece and reckons: “I’m 100% optimistic because I think we have what’s needed to win. It’ll be a tough game because Madrid have some great players, but Barça will win”.

Romeu goes for 2-1 or 2-0

Oriol Romeu reckons: “it’ll be a very close game, but we will win. They are a great team and Barça, well we are Barça! I think it’ll end 2-1 or 2-0. If we can win without suffering too much then all for the good, but we will play like we always do and we are the better team”.

"I’d pay to play!"

2010-09-26_FCB_B_-_NUMANCIA_006.jpgManuel Agudo 'Nolito' is also pretty convinced about Barça’s chances: “Barça will definitely win, No question. If we only play at 70 or 80 percent, we will still win, even though Madrid have been playing well and are unbeaten”. When asked if he’d like to be playing in the game, he replied: “I’d pay everything I earn just to play! Our role is to stay focussed on our job though, which is to beat Betis this weekend and hope the first team players beat Madrid. I’ll be watching the game at home with my family, with my wife”.

"Barça are the best team"

Jonathan Soriano believes: “if Barça play at 100% and Madrid are too, then Barça are the best team. Madrid might have some good players, but as a team, Barça are much the better”.

"It’ll be intense”
Luis Enrique Martínez played for both Barça and Real Madrid and took part in 11 La Liga games between the two at the Nou Camp (6 with Barça and 5 with Madrid). He won four times with Barça and drew twice with two goals in the 3-0 win in 1998/99 and one more in the 2-0 win in 2000(01 season. With Madrid he lost four times and drew once.

Luis Enrique explained: "it’s one of the most spectacular and passionate games you will see. I hope we have the same euphoric atmosphere in the stadium which you always get on these occasions with the fans behind the team throughout the game”. Despite his time with Madrid, Luis Enrique made his preferences very clear: “I hope Barça win”.

"I expect it to be a very intense game in which playing at home could be a determining factor with Barça at such a high level and with so many options available against a Madrid team who are at the same level and have a very different style of play which is very clearly defined”.
