B team key to Guardiola�s squad

Pep Guardiola has expressed his preference for a small squad, which will allow him to use some of the young players from Bar�a B as cover. The boss continues to show his faith in the club�s young talent.

The reserves began their promotion play offs just as Guardiola and the first team squad broke up for their holidays and the first team manager used his first press conference of the new season on Monday to congratulate Luis Enrique and his team on their success: “it’s great news. It’s not the same to travel to grounds in Segona B as it is to play at Betis or Valladolid. It’s good that they will face good teams. It’s all positive and I can see no problems”.

Faith

Guardiola’s usual answer to criticisms that his squad is too small is that: “I’ve got faith in the youngsters of Bar�a B and they have shown that they can lend a hand”. That attitude has clearly been vindicated over the last couple of seasons as World Cup winners Pedro and Busquets have shown: “it’s all a process. I can have my opinion, but it’s the players who count. Do you think I believed Pedro and Busquets would be playing in a World Cup final so soon? No way!”.

Patience

Guardiola is the main supporter of the young talent at the club, but he is also aware that promotion to the first team needs to be dealt with delicately: “we mustn’t burn them out. They have to be well prepared. I play them because I know them and I believe in them, but they have to come through at their own pace”. Guardiola has no doubt that the production line will continue to churn out talent, but warns: “they need to grow and stay here for a while. I’ll try and take as many as I can, because there are a lot of them”.
