This was a great send off for Luis Enrique, with the team achieving the goal they’d set themselves over the last few weeks and finishing in the top three. Neither injuries nor international call ups were able to weaken the determination of the B team who finished a great season in great attacking style.

Still plenty at stake

Both teams still had something to fight for on the final day of the season, with Rayo still in with a chance to become champions and Barça B hoping to finish higher than any other B team at the Club had ever done before. This was no end of season dead rubber, but a vibrant and open game of football with plenty at stake.

Tello double

There were at least 10 good chances in the first half as both teams laid out their stalls. Tello hit the woodwork early on, before the hosts took the lead through Piti on 24 and then Barça scored with two quick breakaways, magisterially finished off by Cristian Tello to give them a 1-2 lead at the break.

Soriano’s 32nd goal

The pace dropped a little in the second half and the home fans took advantage of the final minutes of the season to pay homage to their newly promoted team. Soriano scored a fantastic third, with great control and an unstoppable shot for his 32nd goal of the season and even though Trejo pulled back a late one for Rayo, it was Barça B who left with the points and a well deserved and hard won win to round of a historic campaign and end in third spot.
