Watched by President Sandro Rosell, Barça B were unable to beat a Las Palmas team who really needed the points, even though they were 3-1 up on the half hour. Despite all the missing players, the B team put up a good show and were unlucky not to get more reward after laying siege to the Las Palmas goal in the final half hour or so of the game.

Spectacular start

The first 45 minutes of the game were spectacular –the type of entertainment that really brings the fans in, with goals flying in on almost every attack. The Barça B team showed plenty of changes –with Youth team players Balliu, Sergi Gómez and Espinosa all starting, but even so, they opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Muniesa hit the target from a corner. La Palmas equalised from another dead ball situation as Ruyman headed in a free kick from the right past Miño on 22 minutes

Viera leads the fightback

Two goals in five minutes from Soriano (his 28th of the season) and Tello put Barça B 3-1 up after 33 minutes and Luis Enrique’s team were dominating possession and controlling the game before a penalty on 40 minutes gave Viera the chance to bring the visitors back into the game and Sanchez drew them level on the stroke of half time. Viera was again on target at the start of the second half to make it an unlikely 3-4 and the B team now really had a fight on their hands.

All out attack

Things got worse when Viera grabbed his third to make it 3-5 with the Barça defence looking groggy. Luis Enrique brought on Nolito for Balliu and that was the signal for all out attack from the home team, who saw a Soriano goal disallowed on 69 minutes and Barbosa made a great stop from Saul before Soriano was again unlucky to have a penalty shout turned down. It was in the end a cruel lesson for the B team youngsters, who deserved more for their efforts.
