Joan Laporta believes that the encounter in the Vicente Calderón was “a great performance” and that the team “is improving all the team and that the excitement and expectation is growing”.

Speaking on Catalunya Ràdio from the directors’ box in the Miniestadi, the Blaugrana president said that despite the good results that the team have had this season “we must remain prudent”.

A great game

Messi the leader

On Messi’s role at Barça, Laporta said: “There has been a change of leaders within the team and he was always destined to be a leader of Barça and his national team. He is now known as one of the best players in the world.”

In a good position
In the first few days of 2009, predictions have been made that the economic struggles are set to continue around the world, but president Joan Laporta believes that Barça are in an “optimum” situation. The Blaugrana supremo reminded listeners to the radio programme that the club’s was “reduced to zero” after returning €92.5 million over the past five years.

“We geared all our accumulated resources, our profits, to cover the bank debt and that is now down to nothing,” he explained. “The companies that owe nothing, like us, are the only ones that can face the economic crisis with calmness.”

Laporta added that it was all possible because FC Barcelona had done their work “well and on time” and referred to such agreements as the ones established with Nike and Mediapro.
