Barca-Lakers game to be presented

www.fcbarcelona.cat

The long awaited clash between the current European and NBA Champions - between Xavi Pascual and Phil Jackson, between Juan Carlos Navarro and Pau Gasol- will be officially presented on Tuesday at midday in the Palau Blaugrana.

Club President Joan Laporta, together with the board member with responsibility for the basketball section, Josep Cubells, will be accompanied by ex-Lakers star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and ex-Barca player Roberto Dueñas for the presentation, which was originally slated for 22nd April, but was called off given the travel difficulties caused by the volcanic ash cloud.

Clash of Champions

It’s always a big occasion when an NBA team visits the city, but the Lakers’ game promises to be a qualitative step up. Current NBA champions, The Lakers are considered to be one of the best ever NBA teams and with ex-Barca star Pau Gasol and the brilliant Kobe Bryant in their team, the game should be a real thriller between the two continents’ reigning champs.

QM3D7753.jpgThe Los Angeles Lakers have been crowned NBA champions 17 times in their history and their attacking, entertaining basketball is very similar to Barca’s own style of play. In the 80s they were famous for their “showtime” with players such as Magic Johnson, James Worthy or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar turning on the style. Shaquile O’Neal and Kobe Bryant followed in their footsteps and again combined entertainment and success..

Ticket details soon

Ticket details for the game will be released soon, but Palau ticket holders will have the first option on seats, with non-season ticket holding members next in line and the general public being offered any tickets left over. Prices are expected to range between 34 and 245 Euros.

Close ties
The Regal FC Barcelona – Lakers game will close the NBA Europe Live Tour and confirms the increasingly close links between the NBA and Regal Barca. The NBA will also organise a series of acts at the club during September for 60 children between 15 and 18 years old from all over the world as part of the ‘Basketball Without Borders’ programme. More activities will also be organised around the game.
