Pascual, a coach formed in Catalan basketball

Xavi Pascual has taken temporary charge of AXA Barça after two and a half years working under Ivanovic. Previously, he had a successful career in Catalan basketball, where he achieved several promotions.


Xavi Pascual was born on 9th September 1972 and joined FC Barcelona in the 2004/05 season as coach of Barça B, in the EBA league and coordinator of youth basketball. Before that he had worked in a number of local Catalan teams and achieved three promotions, to the EBA, the LEB-2 and the LEB.

His coaching career

X QM3D9757.jpgavi Pascual (35) started his career as a coach with CB Gavà (1990-94). He then signed for CB Cornellà, where he was senior coach of the under-20s and senior B. Between 1995 and 1997, he was assistant to Cornellà senior coach Agustí Cuesta. He achieved a 2nd and 3rd place in the league and won the EBA Catalan league.

Xavi Pascual then moved to CB Santfeliuenc of the national second division. From 1999 to 2001, he worked for CB Olesa, winning promotion to the EBA league in the first season, and achieving a second place in the higher division.

Success with Aracena

Before joining Barça, Pascual coached Aracena, winning the EBA Catalan league and earning promotion to the LEB-2. In the 2002-03 season, he won the league title in the higher division and won promotion to the LEB. In the following season, despite winning the Catalan league title, the team was demoted to the LEB-2.

With Barça

Xavi Pascual joined FC Barcelona in the 2004/05 season as coach of the EBA team and coordinator of youth basketball. Since the 2005-06 season, Pascual has been assistant coach to the senior team under Dusko Ivanovic.

Professional dedication
Before joining Barça, Xavier Pascual combined his coaching career with an engineering post in the Viladecans Town Hall, which he then gave up on signing for Barça.
