www.fcbarcelona.cat

The basketball team has been drawn against Iurbentia Bilbao in the quarter-finals of the Kings Cup. The winner will then either face TAU or Unicaja in the semi-finals.

AXA FC Barcelona start their defence of the competition they won last year against Iurbentia Bilbao Basket, who are second in the table at the halfway mark in the regular phase of the season.

The other ties

The first names out of the hat, drawn by fashion model Laura de la Calle and Real Madrid star Àlex Mumbrú were DKV Joventut v Pamesa Valencia.

This was followed by the pairing of Iurbentia and Barça. Next, the actor Unax Ugalde and TAU’s Pablo Prigioni drew TAU v Unicaja.

The last of the quarter-finals, Akasvayu Girona v Real Madrid, was drawn by singer Alex Ubago and Iurbentia’s Marcelinho Huertas.

The order in which the quarter-finals are played will depend on the television companies. The semi-final chosen by TVE, who hold the rights to the competition, will be the second game on Saturday. Therefore the quarterfinal games involving these teams will be played on Friday. The quarterfinal games corresponding to the first semi-final, which will be transmitted by the television channels of the autonomous regions, will be played on Thursday 7th February.

A win apiece

This will be the third time that AXA Barça and Iurbentia have met this season. The first encounter was in the semi-final of the ACB Super Cup in Bilbao in September, which Barça lost 74-67. Barça got their revenge in round 16 of the ACB league when they beat Iurbentia 73-66 in the Palau on 6th January.
