The classic reaches the 100 mark
On Saturday the Palau Blaugrana will host the 100th game between Barça and Real Madrid in the ACB League. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since the teams first meeting in 1983. Ivanovic’s team will be looking for the 52nd win.
The first time that the two giants came fact to face in the ACB League ended win a Barça victory by
a margin of 14 points (88-74). Since then there have been 98 times games between the two. At the
moment the balance is slightly favourable to Barça with 51 wins compared to Madrid’s 48.
The biggest win
Out of all Barça’s wins one of the most eye-catching was the 94-65 scoreline during the
season 94-95. That was the biggest winning margin in an ACB league game between the Barça and Real
Madrid with a winning margin of 29 points.
Other noteworthy games
Other memorable classics are the two games in which Barça finished with a winning margin of
28 points. The first occasion was six seasons ago on the 28th of May 2000. The game finished 83-55.
Just a year later, Barça repeated the feat at the Palau winning by 82-54. Wintherthur Barça’s
home stage will be the venue for another Barça-Madrid classic – the 51st to be played at the
Palau Blaugrana.
The last win in the fixture for Barça was in the season 2003-04. The team then coached by
Svetislav Pesic beat Julio Lamas’ Real Madrid side in front of almost 8,000 spectators.
Curiously enough, the star of the show was an ex-Madrid player - Dejan Bodiroga, the Serbian was
top scorer with 25 points.
