Training brings success

It’s been a successful year for the Regal Barça youth squads with a decided emphasis on training and setting challenges.

Guided by this philosophy, the novice teams have competed in the “Campionats Preferents” against older players. The results have been excellent.

The juniors, also a very young squad, finished in second place in the Championship of Catalonia, losing the final against Joventut. They qualified for the Spanish Championship after finishing second in the interregional, but the players coached by Àlex García had the bad luck of being drawn in a difficult group and eventually finished ninth.

The second year “cadets”, third in both the Championship of Catalonia and the sectorial, beat Real Madrid 70-57 to become champions of Spain.

The team coached by Bernat Magrans also picked up a number of other trophies including the Orotava Championship (Tenerife) as well as the Cerdanyola and Terrassa championships.

The first year “cadets” went full steam ahead and achieved some noteworthy results despite the double handicap of age and height. They reached the second stage of the “Campionat de Catalunya Preferent”, in which they demonstrated a most promising development.

The “infantils” of Regal Barça suffered twice at the hands of DKV Joventut. In the Championships of Catalonia and in the Minicup, the green and blacks were always one step ahead. But at the end of the sectorial tournament, the Barça youngsters recovered their pride with a first place finish in the Eastern Conference ahead of Joventut. Unfortunately, in the final of the Spanish Championship Joventut took advantage of Barça’s mistakes in the free throws to beat Regal Barça 69-84.

The youngsters of “Bàsquet Base Barcelona infantile” enjoyed a season full of good sensations. The squad coached by Núria Montolío had an outstanding Championship of Catalonia Level A-2 but lost to l’Hospitalet (70-79) in the Territorial. However, that defeat couldn’t erase the positives seen throughout the season.

The under-20s deserve a special mention for their performance in their category of the Circuit ACB. Nihad Dedovic, Mamadou Samb, Xavi Rabaseda, Òscar Raya, Àlex Hernández, Daniel Pérez, Konstantine Tomaradze, Papa Abdoulaye, Michel Diouf, Albert Salat and Michel Acosta, despite losing the final against DKV Joventut, set a good standard. Second place is Barça's best finish in the four editions of the Circuit.

Most of this team play for WTC Cornellà, the team associated with Regal Barça. After struggling to qualify for the final phases, the players coached by Txema Solsona, produced their best form of the season in the LEB-Silver Final Four. The consequent promotion to the LEB-Gold was a just reward for some excellent team play.
