• Location and context
  The population explosion, the intense rural immigration and a significant deprivation of the outlaying neighbourhoods have recently caused in Tangier economic and cultural changes. In the neighbourhood of Beni Makada, dozens of thousands of people live in a precarious situation. Its inhabitants have scarce resources and many children and youths have to work in order to help their families or start dangerous migratory processes in search for financial resources.
  
• Beneficiaries
  The beneficiaries are more than 200 boys and girls between 8 and 16 years, and their families. These youths are a vulnerable collective, besieged by dysfunctional family problems and lack of economic resources. With an illiteracy rate in Tangier of 51.2% –and much lower registries in girls- the project faces a great challenge. To this it is necessary to add high rates of school absenteeism and school failure.
  
• Infrastructures and activities
  The centre was officially opened the 16th of January 2009.
  
  Besides from the school reinforcement lessons and sport, the centre also organises computer lessons and a theatre workshop. Also the centre promotes literacy among people between 16 and 45 years, especially women, and promotes campaigns of awareness and information in matters such as health and the environment.
