Meritxell Infante

FC Barcelona Cifec have completed the signings of Kasper Hvdit and Demetrio Lozano from Portland San Antonio.

Demetrio Lozano and Kasper Hvdit will make the move from Portland San Antonio to Barça for next season. Lozano returns to FC Barcelona six years after moving away and has signed a four-year deal with an option for a further year. Kasper has joined on a three-year contract and will compete with Barrufet and Losert in goal.

Frame_Lozano.JPGLozano, who won two ASOBAL leagues and two Champions Leagues in his previous spell with the club, returns to Barça some six years after leaving to play for Kiel and Portland. The 31 year-old will add consistency to the defence and strengthen the left wing. He also brings solid experience and a winning mentality.

Demetrio Lozano started playing handball with his hometown club, Juventud Alcalá, spending two seasons with the first team. He then played three seasons with Ademar León before joining Barça – the immensely successful Dream Team - in the 1998-99 season, becoming part of the side that won 7 titles out of 7. He’ll be reunited with David Barrufet in the players’ dressing room, and Enric Masip and Xavi O’Callaghan, now in charge of the section.

Lozano is a regular in the Spanish national squad and won a World Championship in Tunisia in 2005 and a bronze medal in the Sydney 2000 and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.

Both players have worked under new Barça coach Manolo Cadenas at Ademar León, though at different times. Lozano coincided with Cadenas for three seasons (95-96, 96-97, 97-98) while Kasper did so for five (from 1999-2004). Both players also know each other from their time with Portland.
