Farewell victory (35-28)

Meritxell Infante

Barça Cifec played their last home game of the season and stayed in with a chance of finishing third by defeated Darien Logroño 35-28. It all now comes down to the final day of the season.

Xesco Espar's side wanted to bid their supporters' goodbye in style in the final outing in the Catalan capital this term. In an entertainin contest they were able to do just that as all the players took part in what was a festival atmosphere in the Palau. The win, which saw Barça triumph by seven goals, means that the Blaugrana can still achieve third spot in the table.

Logroño make strong start

The opening minutes of the encounter were very even as Darien Logroño came out strongly and were ready for a real battle. Barça Cifec were unable to break away during the first exchanges, but after 20 minutes they managed to create a cushion. The solidity of Losert in goal meant that the hosts had a base upon which to build and they went in at half-time 17-12 ahead.

Party time

Barça, though, were determined not to be the victims of a surprise comeback and Víctor Tomás and Juanín García took the game to their opponents, while Iker Romero continued edging his way to become the game's top scorer, with eight goals in the end. A counter-attack from Tomás saw the hosts produce the biggest lead of teh game, 30-22, twelve minutes into the second half and the fans began to celebrate in style. Espar opted to field his entire squad throughout the match so that each one had a chance to say goodbye for the current season to the supporters inside the stadium.

Skrbic says goodbye

qm3d6358.jpgFor Dragan Skrbic the game was even more special as he was playing in his last game for Barça Cifec in the Palau. The Serbian star will leave the team at the end of the campaign and he was able to mark his send off with a goal in the final minute of the game.
