“We proved we were up to it”

Luis Enrique was happy with his team’s 2-0 win over Elche, stressing the importance of the first clean sheet of the season.

According to the B team boss: “we knew this would not be an easy game, with few chances and not many goals and that we’d have to work hard to win it, but we proved that we were up to it and after having the opportunity to take the lead in the first half, we created many more chances after the break”.

“Serious side to our game”

Luis Enrique insisted: “we deserved the win. We showed a very serious side to our game – we played as we always do in attack, but in defence we showed real control and the group worked well as a whole. That’s the image we are trying to create and I think you will see from us. At this level, you have to have both the attacking and defensive aspects of your game perfectly balanced. Today we achieved that and when that happens we are a difficult team to play against”.

Clean sheet

Luis Enrique was especially pleased by the clean sheet his team kept, explaining: “it’s the first game we’ve not conceded and that should give us a boost. This was a good Saturday for us”.
