Simply superior (92-59)

Cristina Collado

Regal Barça thrashed DKV Joventut 92-59 in the second Catalan derby between the two this season. Juan Carlos Navarro, with a 25 rating and Ricky Rubio with 26 were the game's stand out stars.

After beating them in the Catalan League final in September, Regal Barca again played DKV off the court as Xavier Pascual, who received his award as last season's coach of the year, celebrated his 50th win as team coach.

Spectacle from the start

2009-10-23_PARTIDO_19.JPGRicky Rubio was in the starting five for the first time since joining the team, in what was his 125th ACB game, and right from the off he dominated the game, giving three assists in the first five minutes and then two more before he was applauded off for his first break. But it wasn't just Ricky, as Fran Vázquez deepened his understanding with him and Juan Carlos Navarro and Gianluca Basile both brought their experience to bear from the 6.25 metre line, claiming five three pointers between them in the first quarter.

Lorbek on form too

PARA_DIARI13.JPGAnother player who stood out was the Slovenian pivot Erazem Lorbek who scored 12 points and a rating of 15 in the first half, working well with Navarro, who notched up 6 assists. When Gianluca Basile got his third three pointer, Regal Barca stretched their lead to 13 points at the break (43-30).

Navarro finishes off Joventut

With Navarro getting another 10 points in the third quarter to help give Barca a 72-43 lead at the start of the fourth and Rubio and Navarro setting up Fran Vazquez for two consecutive spectacular smashes, there was little the hosts could do in the final quarter and Regal Barca finished with an astonishing thirty three point winning margin.
