Santiago is the last signing

Daniel Santiago and Regal FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for him to join the club for one season subject to passing a medical. The former Unicaja star will be the last signing made by the Catalan club this summer to complete their squad.

Daniel Gregg Santiago Lynn (Lubbock, Texas, 24 June, 1976) is the centre that Regal Barça have been looking for. Standing at 216cm and weighing in at 120kg he has all the attributes of the type of player that the Blaugrana required after Mario Kasun was injured last month.

ACB experience

The Puerto Rican centre will join Regal Barça after spending three seasons with Unicaja de Málaga, where he played 100 games for the club in the Liga ACB and recorded averages of 9.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.8 blocks. Playing alongside the impressive Martín Carpena, he helped the team to win the Liga ACB in 2005/06 and was player of the round in week 21 of the 2007/08 campaign.

NBA dream

Santiago has always been associated with the NBA however and after coming through the team at the University of New Mexico he always had aspirations to play in the north American league. Despite his first contract with an NBA side not arriving until 2000, when he signed for the Phoenix Suns as a free agent, he enjoyed two years in Europe when playing for Varesse in Italy (1998-2000). After the Suns he played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons.
