Vital win (24-28)

Verònica Díez

Barça Borges are back on top of the Asobal League after winning away at Reale Ademar León by 24 to 28 in a vital victory for the Catalans.

Barça Borges have picked up two points which could be key in the Sabadell Atlàntic Asobal League. The Catalans controlled the game and after an evenly balanced first half (11-12), they stepped up the pressure and put Reale Ademar León on the ropes.

Laszlo Nagy was Barça’s top scorer with six, while Barna Putics made his debut.

First warning

Barcelona Borges came out all guns blazing and took advantage of turnover ball to score twice on the break. Reale Ademar León soon got back in the match, however, as Stranovsky made it 2-2. In the 14th minute the León outfit also came from behind to make it 6 all. Superb defence by both sides led to no goals for four minutes until Jesper Noddesbo put Barça back ahead at 6-7 12 minutes before halftime.

Evenly balanced

In the 17th minute new signing Barna Putics made his first appearance for Barça. Three minutes later teammate Noddesbo put Barça three up at 6 to 9. One of León’s key players, Sarmiento, had to go off injured but his side still fought back in his absence to leave the halftime score reading 11 to 12.

Kasper and Rocas form lethal combination

At the restart the Catalans ramped up their game while their opponents appeared to have gone off the boil. Kasper Hvidt and Albert Rocas really gave the home side trouble, with the Dane stopping everything and the Catalan scoring 5 times. An unanswered streak of four goals put Barça Borges ahead at 13 to 19 but instead of sitting back on their lead the Catalans looked to increase it. Laszlo Nagy made it 18 to 25 with just 8 minutes left on the clock.

León fight to end

Reale Ademar León fought right to the end and four goals got them back to 21 to 24 with six minutes to go. But then Mikkel Hansen turned up the heat and scored Barça’s last three goals as they ran out winners 24 to 28.
