Handball - Beijing 2008

Barrufet leaves with a bronze (29-35)

Carles Cascante

Blaugrana David Barrufet has had the best send off he could have hoped for from the Spanish national team. The Barça goalkeeper played a major role in helping his team to a bronze medal.

Spain have won the third place play-off at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in a hard-fought game in which blaugranas Iker Romero (5 goals), Juanin Garcia (7 goals) and Victor Tomas (3 goals) stood out. The second half saw Spain pull ahead in determined search of victory.

Spain’s strong defence succeeded in frustrating the Croatians who, despite a good first half, never really believed they were in with a chance of a medal. Barça player Venio Losert, who started with Croatia, is left, then, without a medal.
