Xavi Pascual’s first silverware

www.fcbarcelona.cat

This King’s Cup is Xavi Pascual’s first trophy as Barça’s head coach. It is also the first for Rocas, Jernemyr and Hansen and the ninth for Barrufet.

Pascual became Barça’s head coach in February. The team won the Spanish Super Cup at the start of the season when he was second coach. He now has the King’s Cup as head coach after defeating Ciudad Real 29-26 .

Barça’s sixteenth

This is FC Barcelona’s 16th handball King’s Cup. The first came in 1969 and the most recent last season with the defeat of Ademar de Lleó (33-27). In the 1999/2000 season the King’s Cup was one of the seven trophies won by the Dream Team with Valero Rivera as coach: the others were the Asobal League, the European Cup, the Spanish Super Cup, the European Super Cup, the Pyrenees League and the Asobal Cup.

First

Jesper Noddesbo and Boldsen have both won the Danish Cup, the former twice in 2004-05 and 2006-07 and the latter once in 1998-99.

All the other players have won the King’s Cup before, though for Lozano, Garabaya and Hvidt this is the first time in a Barça shirt.

Ninth for Barrufet

It is the ninth title for David Barrufet. The Barça keeper first won it in 1989-90 during his second season in the side.

Two all
This is the fourth time FC Barcelona and Ciudad Real have gone head-to-head in the King’s Cup final. On the first occasion in 2003 Ciudad Real won by 34–31. In 2004 Barça won by 27–25, while last season they went down in the last second by 30-31. Yesterday’s victory by 29-26 means that the two sides now stand at two all.
