Valdés eager to keep on winning

Anna Segura

Speaking at a press conference after training on Monday, Victor Valdés assured reporters that he and the rest of the Barça squad are just as hungry for success as ever.

Victor Valdés is going into the 2010-11 season with the same motivation and self-confidence as previous seasons. He insisted to reporters today that there was no question that the squad had lost its appetite for silverware.

The recipe for success

2010-08-23_ENTRENO_19.JPGA team that has won every title in the book over the last few seasons could easily sit back and lose the competitive edge but Valdés is convinced that won’t happen to Barça. The solution? “Work hard every day on the things we need to improve and remember the things we do right. We can’t allow ourselves to lose the taste for winning. We like to take things one step at a time. That’s the secret of our team. We can’t just accept what we’ve achieved nor look backwards”.

Years together an advantage

Of course, it could be argued that squad preparations have been affected by the late return to training of the World Cup winners, but Valdés believes they have experience on their side: “We’ve been together for many years and we’ve learned our lessons well”.

The Super Cup

According to Valdés: “It’s important to start with a title but the main thing is the image the team gave to our own fans. The football we played was the kind the boss wanted to see”.

David Villa

Speaking as a goalkeeper who has had to face David Villa on many occasions, Valdés told reporters that he was happy to have him in the team, and he’s convinced he will bring a lot to the squad: "Now I can breathe more easily! I know what he can bring to Barça because he’s a great person. He’s a lad who has come here determined to win titles and do a good job”.
