Miño, Sergi Gómez, Romeu and Adriano make debuts

Roger Bogunyà

This Saturday will always be a special memory for Miño, Sergi Gómez and Oriol Romeu who all made their first team debuts in the game against Seville. For Adriano too, who played his first official match for the team against his old club.

Despite the defeat, the debutants, particularly the Barca B youngsters, will surely remember 14th August 2010 as a red letter day in their careers-: Miño, Sergi Gómez and Oriol Romeu stepped up to fill the places left by the absent Spanish internationals and all three put in solid performances, before reflecting on the experience after the game.

“I’m sad about the result. It was difficult to make my debut here, but I was relaxed and treated it like another B team game. The goals that they scored were real classy strikes - Luis Fabiano and Kanouté are quality forwards, but I always think that I could have done more. We can come back from 3-1”

Sergi Gómez. 18. Solid. Although he’s still a Youth Team player and has played very few games with the B team, he responded well to the debut Guardiola handed him, looking strong and authoritative at the heart of the defence alongside Milito. He always made an effort to bring the ball out well.

“I’m happy despite the result. A debut is always a test and the presence of players like Milito and Abidal, who have so much experience, really helped to calm me and give me confidence. It’s a dream for me to have done the pre-season with the first team and made my debut. I’ve been lucky enough to have Guardiola show his confidence in me”.

Although he missed the pre-season after starring for Spain in the European Under 19 Championships, Guardiola decided to start him in midfield, where he imposed himself, winning more balls than any other player except Alves and giving away less than all but Abidal.

“I’m happy to have made my debut. It’s always better to start with a win and it hurts to lose. I thought you could tell in the second half that we are still not 100% in terms of fitness. I got very tired, maybe because of the heat. We need to work more on building up our stamina”.

Adriano Correia
Adriano returned to the ground where he’d played for the last five years and although he only came on for the last 10 minutes, replacing Abidal at left back as the Frenchman moved into Milito’s position at the heart of defence, he was well received by his ex-team fans.
