Club doctors have assessed the extent of the knee problem that forced Xavi out of the Spain squad at the weekend and announced that he may still be in contention for Saturday’s crucial league clash with Valencia.

Xavi Hernandez abandoned the Spain camp on Saturday evening after the match against Armenia. Puyol, who is suspended for tonight’s match, was also given permission to return to Barcelona.

Club doctors were then in contact with the Spanish FA and, on Wednesday morning, Dr Ricard Pruna confirmed the knee injury.

He made his appearance alongside Milito, shortly after the rest of the players, and combined group work with specific individual exercises.

Hopeful for Valencia

With two more sessions programmed for this week – Thursday and Friday – Xavi has a reasonable chance of being ready for Saturday evening’s match against Valencia.
