The Five Cup Winners: 1952 and 2009


Although there's no point in comparing them, the five-cup winning team of 1952 and Guardiola's current team have one thing in common – they both go down as great teams in the club's great history.

The 1951-52 team of Ramallets, César, Kubala and co marked a high point in the club's history with the conquest of their five titles and 57 years later Pep Guardiola's team joined them with their treble winning season and the Spanish and European Super Cup wins.



► League

Barca won the league with 43 points, three more than second placed Bilbao.
Ferdinand Daucik's team made a poor start and didn't head the table till the 23rd game out of 30.

► Spanish Cup

Barca beat Valencia 4-2 in the final played in Madrid, coming back from 0-2 down to take the game in the extra time.
On the road to the final they beat Atlètico Madrid, Màlaga and Valladolid.

Copa Latina

 In the precursor to the European Cup and at the time the most prestigious international trophy, Barca beat Nice 1-0 in Paris thanks to a headed goal from César.
One million people greeted the team on their triumphant return to Catalonia after the win.

► Copa Eva Duarte

 The precursor of the Spanish Super Cup was launched in 1948 and lasted until 1953 when Barca again took the trophy thanks to their second successive League and Cup double.

Barca won this trophy thanks to their winning League goal average – 93 goals scored and just 43
The forward line of Basora, César, Kubala, Moreno and Manchón was immortalised in Serrat's famous song ‘Temps era temps’.



► League

Barca were proclaimed champions with a9 point lead over Real Madrid who they beat 2-6 at the Bernabeu.
The team took the record for most points in a half season (50), total points (87), away wins(13), most away goals (44) and best goal average (70).

► Spanish Cup

A 4-1 win over Bilbao at Valencia confirmed them as the King of Cups.
 A penalty save from Pinto in the semi final against Mallorca sealed their ticket to the final.

Champions League

Barca's third European Cup came with a 2-0 win over reigning champs Manchester United thanks to goals from Eto0o and Messi.
Seven of Guardiola's starting 11 for the final were products of the club's youth scheme at the Masia.

► Spanish Super Cup

As winners of both the League and Cup, Barca played the Spanish Super Cup against Cup runners up Bilbao.
 With a 1-2 win in San Mmaes, Barca rounded off the tie with a 3-0 win at the Nou Camp.

European Super Cup

An extra tome strike from Pedro gave Barca the European Super Cup with a 1-0 win over UEFA Cup winners Shaktar Donetsk.

And it could be six!
The 2009 honours board could yet be added to as Barca travel to the Arab Emirates in December to play for the World Club Championship.
